Ky-Mani Marley one of the most well-known and wealthy Reggae artists was born on February 26, 1976 in Falmouth Jamaica. He was a part of the legendary film Shottas alongside another artist Wyclef Jean. Ky-Mani signed to Shang Records where he recorded his debut album in 1996 Like Father Like Son and several singles including Judge Not With Patra followed by Dear Dad" (which topped the British reggae charts) Who The Cap Does It (remix) and Sensimelia each of which contributed to his rising popularity in the newest generation of reggae singers. In 1997, Ky-Mani teamed up together with Praswell (Fugees) for Avenue an acclaimed cover from Eddy Grant's Electric Avenue. Marley performed at the Midem performance (an international music festival) that was the first time it was performed in Miami. Marley performed in the Cameo Theatre that was broadcasted live throughout 36 nations. Marley's name was the subject of a bidding war. In 1997, Marley signed to Gee Street/V2 Records where the labelmate with him P.M. Dawn is the lead singer of Gotta Movin' On Up.
